Last week MOD. was thrilled to welcome students from the STEM Aboriginal Learner Congress, an inspirational 2 day, in-person event hosted at Adelaide Oval, supported by the Department for Education and co-designed with the Young Aboriginal STEM Thinkers of South Australia (YASTSA).

The Congress helps young people to engage with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning and industry experiences to inspire them to realise their aspirations and take on challenging subjects at school and in future learning. Designed within an Aboriginal community context, it enables learners to explore the skills needed to be a future STEM innovator and problem-solver. Throughout the Congress, students are invited to connect to their cultural identity and explore other cultural identities with Aboriginal STEM knowledge to unlock future STEM pathways.

The MOD. team and amazing Congress mentors supported the students to think about – How do we communicate big ideas?

Students were encouraged to design their own exhibit, taking inspiration from MOD’s galleries and design principles. Exploring storytelling, making meaning and communicating ideas through a lens of digital, sensory and participatory experiences. See some of their engaging designs below.

Arthur Ah Chee shared his journey on how identity, innovation and leadership can drive meaningful change and inspire others to follow. He also spoke about his Aboriginal-led digital design studio and how technology can be used to create content for exhibits and other interactive experiences. Emily Ferry also spoke about her work within digital design, unpacking her study and career journey to highlight alternative learning pathways she used after general schooling to reach an industry that she is passionate about.
