As a future-oriented museum of discovery, MOD. knows that innovative ways of thinking, making, and communicating are needed to continuously, year after year, create impactful exhibitions for our audience that build their skills to better anticipate, navigate and shape futures. To do this, we need to ensure that our team has a steady flow of thought-provoking ideas and ways of knowing the world. MOD.’s Futurists-In-Residence programs serves this purpose.
We invite distringuised academics and practitioners from futures, foresights and adjacent fields from around the world to spend a month in fellowship with us at MOD. The Futurists-In-Residence and our team exchange frameworks, workshops, activities, methods, cultures, resources and human connection, in the hopes that everyone comes out of the month thinking and seeing in a new way.
Since 2023 we have been hosting these fellowships. With the recent completion of our 9th Futurist-In-Residence. During their time at MOD. fellows participate in, attend, and host a number of different events.
The fellowhsips begin with a Welcome to Country ceremony and time with Kaurna cultural leaders to pay their respects to Elders, learn about First Nation’s culture, and connect with the Country they are to spend a month with. Our Futurists-In-Residence are then invited to present at our Foresight Community of Practice gatherings to meet and share knowledge with the Adelaide Futures Eco-System.
Every residency is unqiue. Most fellows run workshops to develop their ideas, work their insights into upcoming exhibitions, run experiements with our audiences, collaborate with university researchers, develop their thinking, and spend time moving around the city and surrounds.
We aim to foster a mutally beneficial Futurist-In-Residence experience, a symbiotic exchange of knowledge that leaves all involved reoriented for the better.
