Our Youth Board is now in its second year and we’d like to share the experiences from our members. This group of eight young people have different interests, some are at school, some at uni, and some are working. All of them are excited about science, art, and helping to create experiences for young people like themselves.
My name is Zhenni. I’m a 2nd year creative industries student who spends half of the day dreaming and the other half thinking how I got to this point in life.
What has been something you’ve enjoyed or has been unexpected about participating in the MOD. Youth Board? I enjoy seeing how the conversation moves towards unexpected directions all the time. It’s always nice to see people approach questions and topics in different ways other than my own. Overall, I get so many fresh perspectives and insights.
What advice would you have for anyone thinking about applying next year? Don’t stress – MOD. Youth Board is literally for everyone.
If you were a drink, what drink would you be? Apple cider because it’s quite plain and harmless.
My name is Ellanna. I’m currently a freelance set designer and artist working in theatre and film.
What has been something you’ve enjoyed or has been unexpected about participating in the MOD. Youth Board? I have enjoyed experiencing and learning about the brain-storming strategies used to think of exhibition ideas.
What advice would you have for anyone thinking about applying next year? Just do it!
If you were a drink, what drink would you be? A classic gin and soda.
My name is Chris. I’m a final-year Computer Science student and a software developer. In my free time I’m a painter, writer, reader and film enjoyer!
What has been something you’ve enjoyed or has been unexpected about participating in the MOD. Youth Board? I’ve really enjoyed the purpose-driven social aspect at MOD. meetings. They provoke critical thinking and encourage open-mindedness in a safe, comforting space.
What advice would you have for anyone thinking about applying next year? It’s easy, fun, not too frequent (monthly for the busy people) and you get to make a meaningful contribution. Overall, a net positive.
If you were a drink, what drink would you be? Nudie’s red dragonfruit, pineapple, mint and pear juice with a shot of unflavoured gin.
My name is Mansib. I’m an international student trying to make the most out of life, fun-wise.
What has been something you’ve enjoyed or has been unexpected about participating in the MOD. Youth Board? Something I’ve enjoyed at the Youth Board of MOD. would definitely be the group of individuals who share similar interests in things and similar mindsets. Being able to collaborate with a team of this intellect has been a pleasure for me!
What advice would you have for anyone thinking about applying next year? My personal recommendation would be to absolutely go for it as it will be a different experience for you. After all, you’d be part of a community who are in charge of a futuristic museum inspired by ideas at the intersection of arts, science and innovation.
If you were a drink, what drink would you be? Interesting question. I’d probably be a sparkling lemonade. I’m the bubbly companion with a touch of zest who adds (tries) a little sparkle to your day!
My name is Chloe. I am passionate student interested in events, space and engineering. I love getting involved in community activities and making a positive impact.
What has been something you’ve enjoyed or has been unexpected about participating in the MOD. Youth Board? One of the most enjoyable and unexpected aspects of being part of the MOD. Youth Board has been working on the Discovery Market event and getting to see the awesome things the community has to show.
What advice would you have for anyone thinking about applying next year? My advice for those considering applying next year is to be authentic and genuine in your application. Be passionate and ready to collaborate and share your thoughts!
If you were a drink, what drink would you be? If I was a drink I would want to be a warm hot chocolate with mini marshmallows – warm, sweet and comforting.
My name is Maddi. I’m a year 11 student at Gleeson College and I hope to become a cardio-thoracic surgeon one day!
What has been something you’ve enjoyed or has been unexpected about participating in the MOD. Youth Board? This year in the MOD. Youth Board I’ve really enjoyed how everyone contributes their unique ideas to form a bigger outcome collaboratively.
What advice would you have for anyone thinking about applying next year? Advice I have for anyone thinking of applying is don’t be afraid to think big! Sharing your perspective allows others to bounce off your ideas and understand something in a new light.
If you were a drink, what drink would you be? If I were a drink, I’d definitely be coffee.
My name is Fatiha. I am passionate about all things arts related.
What has been something you’ve enjoyed or has been unexpected about participating in the MOD. Youth Board? I’ve enjoyed all the discussion we have had at the Youth Board, especially on topics that impact us as young people today. In addition, I enjoyed exploring all the topics in depth and I was surprised with some of the unexpected but interesting solutions we came up with as well.
What advice would you have for anyone thinking about applying next year? Don’t be worried about working with new people, everyone is nice and accepting.
If you were a drink, what drink would you be? Strawberry lemonade.
My name Paige. I’m a multiform artist/filmmaker and current Carclew Sharehouse Resident. I’m an outdoorsy type of person and a backyard beekeeper.
What has been something you’ve enjoyed or has been unexpected about participating in the MOD. Youth Board? Over the course of this year, the MOD. youth board has allowed for us as to connect through our shared interests and differing views! In addition, It has highlighted how invaluable collaboration is for research and exposed me to new ways to incorporate this in my own creative process.
What advice would you have for anyone thinking about applying next year? I would highly recommend applying if this sounds of interest to you!
If you were a drink, what drink would you be? If I were a drink I would be ginger ale because it’s my favourite. It’s sweet and a little in your face with that ginger kick.
